I haven’t given up blogging… I have been distracted by life, but was able to get some more drafts up onto here. They will eventually see the surface… maybe. 😛
Last night was a very refreshing time of contemplative worship with my spiritual family at YAM. We really just spend time seeking and listening to and worshipping God.
1 King 19: 11-12 – The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
God definitively spoke, and continues to speak, yet we don’t hear Him. It was a good chance for me to slow down more and just stand in His presence again.
And was reminded of the story:
A man is sitting on his porch as flood waters rise. A woman floats by in a boat, asking if the man needs help. “No, thank you,” says the man, “I’m trusting in the Lord.” The waters rise higher, sending the man upstairs. A raft full of people floats by his second story window. “Get in,” they say, “there’s plenty of room.” “No thanks,” says the man, “I’m trusting in the Lord.” The flood waters keep rising, pushing the man up to the roof. A helicopter swoops in, lowering its ladder for the man. “Thanks anyway,” shouts the man, “I’m trusting in the Lord.” Finally, the man is swept away in the torrent and drowns. At the gates of Heaven, the man asks God, “Why didn’t you save me?” “What do you mean?” replies God, “I sent two boats and a helicopter.”
We’d laugh, but are we not doing the same today?
God speaks to each and everyone of us in various different ways.
I never thought I’d ever be the type to have prophetic dreams, but I did.
I never expected God to speak through Chinese pop music, but He did. He spoke through 沒離開過 (Had Never Left). Part of the lyrics said something like:
“I gaze upon the mountains, and missed my turn
suddenly looking back, you are waiting there, and never left.
I look upon the oceans, and missed the flowing river,
When I’m paddling up the stream, you are on my side, pushing me on.
Right here, right now, let us lift up our head and receive the Love coming down,
The sunlight had testified that this was not just a dream.
Right here, right now, close your eyes and feel with your heart,
There is a voice, saying that Love had never left.”
And God told me, “that is exactly what my love is like.” (This is a story for another time)
I never expected God to actually listen to and reply to my prayer right away, but He did. One morning, when i was praying in the car while waiting to pick up a couple friends to head to service. When I got to the part where I said, “I’m going to seek your face.” The sun came out from behind the clouds and was directly in my face.
Then there’s the more ‘traditional’ God speaking through worship, sermon, scripture, other people…
If God is the living, loving father we believe Him to be, then He would love to play with His children
Yes, God speaks in different ways, but I would not recommend directly seeking God in Chinese music, or try to spiritualize every dream you ever had. But i would say that You’d KNOW when it was God speaking. There will be all transcending peace, and the message would always be one of two things:
1. He is telling you that He loves you.
2. He is empowering you to love Him or love others like He loves you. (conviction would fall under this category, IMO)
What I heard last night was this:
If I were to sum up my life thus far in one word, the word would be HELD. Even before I inherited the kingdom, even during the darkest hours… Held.
THAT was refreshing.
